In steel castings, the types of castings used by machinery are relatively diverse. The shapes, complex structures, quality requirements, dosages, etc. all affect the castings.


In the production process of many castings, the casting method is used. During the casting process, cracks in the mold, defects such as sand sticking and sand blasting on the surface of the casting are common. The final result is the appearance of the casting. The quality is very poor, not only increasing the amount of cleaning but also the finishing work. Compared with the appearance of foreign castings, there are obvious differences.


In the production of steel castings, not only should we pay attention to quality issues, but also the appearance of the product needs special attention. The specific reasons for the rough surface of the casting are listed below:


1. The particle size of molding sand and core sand is too coarse.


2. The compactness of sand mold and sand core is low or uneven.


3. The coating quality of the type and core is poor, the thickness of the coating is uneven, and the coating is peeling off.


4. The pouring temperature and pouring height are too high, and the metal hydraulic pressure is high.


5. The height of the top box or gate cup is too high, and the hydrostatic pressure of the metal is high.


6. The molding sand and core sand contain too much clay, binder or fusible additives, low fire resistance and poor thermal conductivity.


7. The core sand contains too much recycled sand, too much crushed sand particles, dust, dead burned clay, iron-clad sand in the recycled sand, and the sintering temperature of the molding sand is low.


8. The castings fall out of the box too late to form solid hot sticky sand, especially thick castings and high melting point alloy castings.


9. Liquid metal has good fluidity and low surface tension. For example, the content of phosphorus and lead in copper alloy is too high, and the content of phosphorus, silicon and manganese in cast steel is too high.


10. The oxides and low-melting compounds in the molten metal react with the molding sand to form low-melting compounds such as ferrous silicate and ferolitic, which reduces the surface tension of the molten metal and improves its fluidity, making the low-melting compounds and metals The liquid penetrates into the sand grain gap through the capillary action mechanism, and during the infiltration process, the sand grains are continuously eroded to expand the sand grain gap, resulting in mechanical or chemical sand sticking.
